In partnership with Newmarket Youth & Recreation Centre and a number of York Region's LGBT-related organizations, Gay York Region is pleased to announce the launch of "Fusion" - a Newmarket based social/support group for York Region youth who support inclusion and equality, irrespective of sexuality and gender identity.

The group will meet at the Newmarket Youth & Recreation Centre (56 Charles St, Newmarket) on the second Monday of each month - between 7pm and 9pm. Meetings will be informal, drop-in events and attendees are invited to arrive or depart at any time betwwen 7 and 9.

All youth, up to the age of 26, will be welcomed at meetings whether they're straight, lesbian, bi, trans or unsure of their sexuality, so long as they are committed to respecting and upholding the group’s safe space. (A safe space is defined as an environment free of all types of discrimination, in particular discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It’s a place where everyone has the right to feel safe, included, comfortable expressing themselves and to participate fully, without fear of attack, ridicule, or denial of experience.)

In its ongoing operation, the group will aim to employ the same values and principles adopted by Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) groups within schools.

The next Fusion event will be this coming Monday, 10th January, 7pm-9pm at the Newmarket Youth & Recreation Centre.
